James Reed Hudgens, 93, passed away peacefully, on Sept. 13, 2024, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

He was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Sparta, to Lawrence Hudgens and Willie Clara Hudgens.

He married his longtime friend and love, Dolores Ann Hudgens, in August 1950. He and Dolores moved to Michigan where they began their lives together and raised two children, Joyce Elaine and Wayne

Reed. James Reed owned and operated several businesses in

Michigan.

Throughout his career, he became a successful builder with a knack for real estate. He was a dedicated Free Mason. He had a lifelong passion for horses, hunting, and bird dogs. His bird hunting trips throughout the country will always be cherished by those who joined him.

He was known as an excellent shot, winning many skeet competitions throughout his life. He adored his two grandchildren, Amber and Colton. He was always busy, whether it was being “Papa” to his grandkids or telling stories about his adventures. Several years ago, he and Dolores moved back to Sparta, Tennessee, to be closer to family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Dolores Ann Hudgens.

James Reed is survived by a daughter, Joyce Elaine Boudreau (Gordon-deceased); a son, Wayne Reed Hudgens (Andrea); a brother, Gene Hudgens (Elois); an aunt, Raynelda Bohannon; two grandchildren, Amber Hudgens, Colton Hudgens; and a lifelong family friend, Mike Stemple.

James Reed never backed up a step from man or beast. He was a strong, inquisitive, extraordinary man who loved to talk to people on a personal level. He never met a stranger.
