White County Middle School Warriors kept the score close in a thrilling two-game series against the Upperman Bees recently. The Warriors emerged as winners in the first game that was played at home but faced challenges they were unable to overcome in the rematch at Upperman the following day.
On March 27, the Warriors hosted the Bees in a tightly contested game that went into extra innings. The matchup was a showcase of White County’s pitching and defensive skills, with Clay Brewington on the mound for White County. Brewington delivered a stellar performance, pitching six innings, allowing only three hits, and striking out seven batters. The game started with an early lead for the Warriors, thanks to a costly error by Upperman in the bottom of the second inning.
However, Upperman fought back, tying the game in the top of the fourth. With nothing happening in the fifth inning for either team, the game moved into extra innings. In the bottom of the sixth, Jack Dicus led off with a triple, setting the stage for a dramatic finish. Clay Brewington, who had already made his mark on the mound, stepped up to deliver a walk-off single, giving the Warriors the 2-1 win. Brennan Burchett, Mason Seibers, and Evan Nicholas each contributed with hits, while Clay Brewington’s RBI proved crucial in the win.
On March 28, the Warriors traveled to Upperman for the second game of the series. Despite their best efforts, White County fell short, losing 2-0. The team struggled with their bats, accumulating 11 strikeouts throughout the game. Clay Brewington and Riley Howell each recorded a hit, but the Warriors were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. They faced a moment in the top of the fifth when they could have swung the game in their favor. White County loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to bring any runners home, keeping their side of the scoreboard at zero.
Mason Seibers took the mound for three innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out four batters. Jack Dicus relieved him in the fourth, pitching one inning without allowing any runs.
The split in the series brings the Warriors’ record to 6-3 overall, with a solid 4-2 in conference play.
