WCMS Warriorette softball get wins and celebrates Autism Awareness Month

Before last Tuesday night’s game, the Warriorettes celebrated Crestin Sullivan by walking the bases to score a run toward autism awareness. The eighth-grade softball players walked the bases with Sullivan, a student at White County Middle School.

After the ceremonial touching of all four bases, the Warriorettes got down to work, moving to 7-1 on the season as they gook a 4-3 win over Livingston.

“We didn’t hit the ball very well tonight, but the girls played well enough to get the win,” head coach Gregg Segraves said after the game.

With the score tied at 0 in the second inning and with two outs on the board, Bianca Villano ripped a triple.  Alli Beth Stebing followed with a single RBI to put the Warriorettes up 1-0.  Jordan Wright reached on an error and bringing in the second run of the inning.

The third inning started off with A.K. Wallace getting on base with a hard-hit ball and then Annie Burrier ripping a double to score Wallace that increased White County’s lead to three.  Addison Norvell followed with an RBI single to score the Warriorettes fourth and final run of the day.  Norvell stole a couple of bases, but the Warriorettes couldn’t come up with a timely hit, and she was left stranded on base.

Livingston came back and scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning after the Warriorettes made a couple of throwing errors and an unusual dropped flyball to let the Wildcats get on the scoreboard. But the damage wasn’t enough, and White County hung on for the 2-3 win.

“Our defense has been solid all year, but we made a couple of mistakes and they capitalized. I thought Annie Burrier threw extremely well, recording five k’s on only one walk while giving up only two hits,” Segraves said. “These girls play the game the right way, and I couldn’t be more proud of their attitude and work ethic.”
