The White County High School Warriors played a double header April 3, with both games taking place at Ethan Roberts Ballpark at Culley Field. The Warriors completely shut down the Clay County Bulldogs as they won their first game 18-1 and the second 7-1.
The Warriors announced their dominance on the field right from the start, scoring 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning of the first game. They followed that up with four more in the second, and, after a scoreless third inning, putting three more runs on the scoreboard in the fourth. When the Bulldogs could only manage a single run in the top of the fifth inning, the game was called.
Freshman Gage Walker led the Warriors going 4-for-4 at the plate and scoring three runs. Austin Pionke and Eli Smith each had two hits and two RBIs in the first half of the doubleheader. Kaden Seibers, Will Thomas, Kolt Norris, Cole Gentry, and Kasen Seal each picked up a hit as well. As a team, White County drew four walks and had six batters hit by a pitch. The Warriors made the most of their time on the basepaths, stealing eight bases and only leaving five runners stranded over the course of the game.
It was Trenton Wilson getting the win on the mound. Wilson pitched all five innings giving up just two hits and striking out 11 while not issuing a single walk.
Clay County started the second game looking to make more of a contest out of it than the first and put a run on the board right away. However, the Warriors answered with a run of their own in the first inning as well. White County broke the tie by adding another run in the second inning and then four more in the third and an extra one in the fourth. The Bulldogs were never able to move runners around the bases after the first inning, and the five-inning game ended with the Warriors taking a tamer-looking 7-1 win.
It was Kason Seal who was the offensive standout in the second game. Seal scored two runs, stole four bases and went 2-for-2 at the plate, plus added a walk. Griffin Adams and Kaden Seibers also were 2-for-2 in the hitting department while Walker, Gentry, and Trenton Wilson each had a hit.
Will Thomas started the game on the mound for White County, pitching two innings and giving up 1 run on 1 hit while striking out four. It was Griffin Adams who got the win for the Warriors, however. Adams faced seven batters in his two innings on the mound giving up one walk while striking out two and not giving up any runs. Wyatt Dilts got the save, striking out the final three batters in the fifth inning.
White County’s win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, as they have given up just 2.3 runs per game during that time.
