White County Board of Education is engaged in a proactive endeavor as they attend a summer law conference hosted by the Tennessee School Boards Association. This conference serves as a platform for educating school boards statewide on new laws pertinent to the field of education.

Jayson McDonald, a board member and the vice president of the Tennessee School Board Association, emphasized the significance of this event in fostering relationships among different school boards. McDonald highlighted the value of exchanging ideas and experiences with counterparts from various districts, thereby enabling fruitful discussions and collaborations.

One of the key focal points of the conference, according to McDonald, includes discussions on crucial topics such as handgun carry permits for school employees, third grade and fourth grade retention laws, and the allocation of funding derived from state testing. The interactive nature of the event allows school boards to delve into these subjects, pose inquiries, and share diverse perspectives.

McDonald said the primary objective of the conference is to disseminate information rather than instigate substantial changes to the operations of the school board. The event serves as a conduit for relaying insights obtained from the state department of education and legislators regarding new laws and upcoming developments in the educational landscape.

During the conference, a dedicated work session was scheduled during which White County Board of Education will focus on reviewing their policies for the forthcoming year, outlining a new director’s evaluation model, and deliberating on the proposed culinary arts project. This session underscores the board’s commitment to enhancing their practices and exploring innovative initiatives for the benefit of the educational community.
