New annual appointments were made to the White County Board of Commissioners during its September meeting

Commissioner Derrick Hutchings was appointed as chairman for the board of commissioners for the next 12 months, while David Cranford was appointed vice-chairman. Hutchings replaces Kyle Goff who had served as chairman for the term from September 2023 through August 2024. Lanny Selby was appointed as the committee’s parliamentarian. Additionally, commissioners were appointed to new committees as is customary for the county each year.

In other business, several items from both the Sheriff’s Office and the Solid Waste Department were listed as surplus items, including shotguns from the Sheriff’s Office and trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment from Solid Waste.

The commission also authorized the county executive to enter into a lease agreement with Jackson Kayak to rent space at their facility located at 3300 McMinnville Highway to use for storing parts and working on the county’s garbage trucks. The lease allows for the county to have access to one office, four bays, and space outside for storage containers and trucks.

The budget committee presented five resolutions for the purpose of reappropriating funds for various departments including the health department, highway capital projects, and the school system. All of the resolutions passed by the commissioners who were present.

Before adjourning, the full court of commissioners approved Kade Clark as a member of the planning committee as recommended by county executive Denny Wayne Robinson.

Lanny Selby, Chris Brewington, Larry Daniels, Becky Golden, and Thomas Margeson were absent from the Sept. 16 board of commissioners’ meeting.

The next meeting for the White County Board of Commissioners will be 6 p.m., Oct. 21, in the third-floor courtroom, at the courthouse. Committee meetings will be Oct. 7
