The Sparta-White County Chamber of Commerce has a change in leadership.

On April 3, 2025, Brent Young, who serves as an alderman for City of Sparta, just celebrated his new position as president of the Chamber Taking place at Duck Pond Manor, Young shared his vision for Sparta-White County as a whole and his role as president.

Young has had a history of leadership. From 4-H as a child to being the national vice president for the Junior Chamber, or JCI USA, Young had shown an extensive record of dedication toward improving his community. To this end, Young has described his new role as the sort of “cheerleader” for Sparta-White County. By connecting others through commerce, new businesses, and generally hyping up Sparta as the place to be and visit, the city and county will grow and develop to the best version of itself that it can be.

“I really want to be this town’s hype-man,” Young says. “Let’s do it, and let’s do it together. I really want to see this community thrive, and grow, and continue to grow. I want corporate entities to see Sparta and say this is the place to be.”

As the Chamber president, Young helps organize efforts to assist businesses throughout the county. Whether a business is struggling to bring new employees to the door, needs resources that a small startup cannot get access to, or simply “needs a guy” for a specific problem that is not faced every day, Young believes that is where the Chamber really shines. It also provides a path for the Chamber to act as a middleman for bringing in tourism to Sparta, so that others can visit the town and add to its prosperity through revenue that stays in the community.

“The Chamber is about economic growth, development, and providing resources and networking opportunities for its members,” Young said. “We advocate for our members. We advocate for this county to be really something great.”

Young is very optimistic and energetic about his new role and eager to bring as much progress to the city and county as he can during his service.
